Curriculum
Born in Medellin, Colombia, in 1984.
From an early age became interested in art history, music and Goldsmith, fundamental disciplines in asserting his artistic vocation. Of the latter, he cultivated during his teens, he came in curious sculptural work.
His background in fine arts began in his hometown, in 2000, under the guidance of the renowned and controversial Colombian Debora Arango expressionist masterpiece. Later, he continued his studies at the workshops of the artist Antioquia Zulategui Libe of American painter and Ethel Gilmour. In this learning period, he worked with discipline techniques of oil painting, pastel, charcoal and acrylic.
In 2003, he traveled to Bogota and enrolled at the prestigious School of Visual Arts at the University of the Andes, where he developed studies for four years, which complemented with intensive training in art history and artistic performance, in Colombian Art grandmaster David Manzur, who became his mentor for seven years.
The 19-year-old Joaquin Restrepo was invited, along with the major artists of his country, to create sculptures to be auctioned at prestigious events organized and implemented by entities such as the house Christies in New York, the National Museum of Colombia and the Foundation Stone (on behalf of victims of the war that has ravaged their country). In 2008, a sculpture of his own, the horse entitled "Miserere" (250 cm high in iron sheets) was auctioned at the gala Equsarte among the best of the night, reaching a value higher than the works by some of the great masters of Colombian art, which were also part of the bid. The same record was repeated the following year with his "Window", which led him high praise from intellectual and artistic authorities of Colombia, as the former president of Colombia Belisario Betancur, who wrote that Restrepo is an artist "anointed the gods "and that, despite his youth, and is" a master ".
During the six years he joined the social cause of "Green Heart", Restrepo was one of the artists who contributed to good economic success of this foundation, thanks to success in sales of large-format pieces and their plays a smaller scale.
In 2010 he was invited to exhibit his work in Congress and the Convention Center of Cartagena de Indias. For the occasion, presented his show "Agora", consisting of twenty of his sculptures, including his work loomed large format (280 cm) called "Agora", comprising five male figures in iron and bronze.
Currently, Joaquin Restrepo lives in Bogota, where advances Ceramic studies with Venezuelan master Dalita Navarro.
